During the music video there’s the use of a lot of close ups
of the artists, which is one of Andrew Goodwin’s features for music videos, to
show importance of the singer and to promote the artist.
The music
video switches from the performance of the girl band to a narrative of the
song. Here we see a mother in the window gesturing for her son to come back,
and we can see the son in the reflection of the window. The lyrics which follow
this clip are, “a lonely mother gazing out of the window staring at her son
that she just can’t touch.” This relationship between the visuals and the sound
is also one of Andrew Goodwin’s theories. Throughout the clip there’s also suggestion of water such as the lake they’re stood in
during the beginning and then during the end clips they’re in a waterfall,
which again shows the relationship to the lyrics, “waterfalls.”
Another feature of Andrew Goodwin’s ideas is also used within
the music video quite frequently, as the notion of looking, in this particular
case we see a man looking into a mirror, reflecting himself which the lyrics
state that he doesn’t recognise himself.
The
R&B girl group uses very stereotypical girl group shots such as long panning
and zooming shots to display the 3 girls doing a dance routine. In this clip
you can clearly see the 3 girls in the shot doing a dance routine in the water
