Controversial Music Videos
In the above article the author speaks about controversial music videos, in particular Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money" music video. In Rihanna's music video there is nothing we haven't seen before within TV, film, music videos and video games, however the artist has a particularly young audience and it all seems out of context and forced, which is where the problem beings...
The author explains the music video in brief and discusses the main issues: nudity, drugs and death. The author discusses whether Rihanna chose to do this out of creativity or purely just for likes and views as the internet is well known for speaking their opinions and sharing content with others and to Rihanna's advantage this is what was done. The internet voiced their opinions on the video due to the explicit content making the music video extremely popular because of the controversial material within the video. The author also explains how the song only got to Number 17 in the Billboard charts without a video, creating the idea that some artists now may focus more on how many views a video may get rather than the quality of the video. The author believes that the music video was created out of desperation for views and money which is why Rihanna created such a controversial music video as she knew that a video with such content would attract so much controversy -putting her name and her songs in the headlines.
The author also believes that an event video/mini-movie should be something that is to "project power and money" upon their audience to show themselves off in this light, however it usually just shows flaws of an artist rather than in a positive light.
