In our music video we want to try and use different types of lighting throughout the video, particularly when we are using a mid/close up shot of the female lip syncing. This will allow us to give the video a different atmosphere and feel. To research into different lighting techniques I have looked on YouTube for videos on this topic.
In the video below they show us 5 different lighting techniques for portrait lighting (suitable for our lip syncing video clips). Although in this video, they are using large professional lighting equipment we can still create the same effect with the lighting tools we have available to us by using the same angels and places where the lighting is distributed across the face. Our song in some parts can become quite mellow and we believe that lighting can really help represent this, by the use of the "Rembrandt light" or "Split light" both casting a shadow on the side of the face by positioning the lighting to the sides of her face at a distance. As the music continues we also want to move the lighting, particularly the "Rembrandt light" from one side of the face to the other. In the video the "Butterfly light" is also a technique we could use when doing extreme close-ups of the face, to ensure all of her face is well lit and not casting any odd shadows that may not look right when doing extreme close-ups.
I also looked at other music videos to see how lighting fit in with the music, a good video I found was "No Harm" by the Editors. Their use of lighting use is a significant part of their video, in the video we see a variety of lighting techniques used and many from the above video about portrait lighting e.g. the "Rembrandt light" is used to cast a shadow upon their faces often in the video. As well as this, they time the light 'flashes' with the music itself which is a really interesting technique for the video, I believe this technique could inspire our video and use the lighting and music beats in sync linking the song and the video.
